Maple Lanes in Waterloo, Iowa was known for its well-lit, not too bright bowling lanes. Efficient Technologies suggesting swapping out their existing lighting for LEDs. Owner Rich Eighme was concerned that LEDs might make the space too bright. We worked with Maple Lanes to ensure the new LED lights would provide the same look and color temperature but with significant energy savings.
After the LED installation, Maple Lanes received a rebate from their utility company, as well as substantial savings on their monthly utility bills. Eighme has also received several comments about how nice the new lights look.
Jerald Sulky hand crafts the best show horse carts in the world. For a long time they were performing their work under dim, fluorescent task lights. Now they are working under excellent LED lighting. Erik Lee of Jerald Sulky comments that the most important part of the project was how Efficient Technologies handled the entire rebate process. The LED lighting upgrade is not only saving the company money on monthly energy bills, but is providing a more comfortable work environment for the employees. MidAmerican Energy rebates covered 66% of the project cost bringing the payback to just over three and a half years.
Josh Reis from Gelita USA encourages companies to “just start the process” with Efficient Technologies. He saw nearly half a million square feet transformed with LED lighting all handled by our company. The project saw a rebate from MidAmerican that covered 70% of the total cost. Lighting energy consumption was reduced by more than 75% while light levels were increased throughout the production and office spaces.
“We partnered with Efficient Technologies because the team came to us with a different approach. Their holistic approach resonated well with our team because it helped us look at the big picture, not just one project. As true partners, the team communicated very well and didn’t miss a single detail, all of which showed with the delivery of a very complete and accurate financial model. Calculating ROI and making the sale to our CFO is much easier when you can trust the numbers.
We are very happy with how the first project turned out and would recommend a partnership with Efficient Technologies to other businesses. We are thrilled with the positive impact this has had on our plant beyond cost savings and financial payback. In fact, we are already working with them on the next project!”

Like any car dealership, Carousel Motors in Iowa City wanted their cars and trucks to look good. Part of looking good is making sure your showroom is adequately lit. Before meeting with Efficient Technologies, Carousel was using fluorescent tubes and fixtures.
After an energy survey, we replaced those fluorescent lights with LED task lights, panels and fixtures. The entire process required little work on Carousel’s end — Efficient Technologies handled everything. As a result, the quality of light has improved so much that even customers and employees have commented that the facility looks cleaner and brighter. The decrease in utility bills is just the cherry on top.
“Our building was only 7 years old when we were having trouble with the ballasts in some of our light fixtures. Jacob Wittmayer happened to call on us and showed us the benefits of LED lights. After outlining the savings in electricity and getting a third project bonus rebate, it just seemed like a no brainer.
Before we signed on to do the project, Efficient Technologies installed two sample color temperatures so we could get the right light effect for our flooring samples. Lighting is important in showing the colors of all flooring carpet, wood and tile. Riley’s is a service oriented company and Efficient Technologies was the same way.
Jacob and Seth were very easy to work with and thoroughly explained anything I did not understand. They took care of all our needs. Seth was on site with the electricians and worked around our customers and time frame. Initially, we did not have enough light in the warehouse and they replaced the whole fixture at no cost to Riley’s. Upon project completion, Efficient Technologies handled all the rebate paperwork on our behalf.
We do not have to change our lighting for the next 10 years. I have already told several people about the great job Efficient Technologies did and the savings we will receive. They were a great benefit to Riley’s.”

The Goodwill network across the country is aiming to go as green as possible. This effort began with a significant lighting upgrade for Goodwill Industries of Northeast Iowa. The 70,000 square feet were once lit with dingy fluorescent and metal halide fixtures. Today, all spaces have crisp, clear and reliable LED illumination. A great feature for the warehouse staff is having the lights on motion sensors. This capitalizes on further energy reduction and provides light on an as-needed basis. The upgraded lighting is projected to cut 100,009 kWh of usage annually, amounting to over $8,600 of annual savings from more energy efficient lighting.
